To me, this is one of the hardest parts of our, um, current age: At no point in our lives are we better-equipped to truly know and understand all the wonderful and messy parts of ourselves, and yet some days I feel like I don't know me at all.

Completely agree. At the shrines, there are often sacred mirrors positioned at the altar. When you look at it, you see yourself. I spent a bit thinking on that...

I love this piece! How there are times, like in childhood, where we are thrilled to use our voices - and then, as the years wear on, trusting ourselves becomes harder. I definitely understand this. It IS a heavy lift to trust ourselves, and I love that you spoke to the messy part of being human. The messy part of having something to say, and not being sure how to say it, or if we even deserve to say it.
